60 years of SRA in the Philippines
The post-pandemic scenario in the academe brought Abiva’s resilience and innovativeness to a new level. There are three versions out to amplify the reach and rewards of the SRA Reading Laboratory in the Philippines: the SRA Power Builders book version, SRA Reading Laboratory Online (Global Edition), and the classic SRA Reading Laboratory kits.
SRA as proven program
Abiva takes pride in its many contributions to solidify literacy development in the Philippines. Both private and public schools in the country, from the elementary to the tertiary level, enjoy the benefits of SRA in developing learners’ comprehension, vocabulary and word study skills, language skills, and even test-taking skills.
Every Child a Reader
St. Stephen School in Ormoc made history as the first school to adopt SRA Reading Laboratory in the 1960s. The school is among the many witnesses to Abiva’s proactive response to the Department of Education’s Every Child a Reader Program, which the department ran for over 20 years.
HOME of SRA in the Philippines
In 1965, Luis Q. Abiva, Jr., then President and now Chairman of Abiva Publishing House, Inc. (APHI), introduced the SRA Reading Laboratory to the Philippines. After meeting with its inventor, Dr. Don H. Parker, Mr. Abiva brought this multi-leveled, independent reading program into Philippine classrooms, revolutionizing the way students engage with reading.
Modern Age Challenges
During the pandemic, Abiva adapted to the challenges in education. It implemented various solutions to continue to help students, such as creating e-books for different subjects and publishing learning modules and the Flexible Learning Primer.
Change and Progress: Abiva in the History of Education
With the passage of time, Abiva keeps up with the changes required by each stage in the history of teaching in the country. Abiva publishes basic books as required by the curriculum to meet the learning needs of students.
Response to Every Change
The changes introduced in the Philippine education curriculum, from 1960 to the present, aim to improve the quality of teaching and address the continuing challenges in education.
First Publication
In 1936, during the Commonwealth period, Abiva Publishing House, Inc. began as one of the first publishers of books for the civil service examination.
