Acquisition Manager
Job Description
The Acquisition Manager builds and manages the pipeline of manuscripts and projects. This role focuses on author engagement, proposal evaluation, and market intelligence, ensuring every acquisition aligns with curriculum standards and the publisher’s long-term roadmap.
Key Responsibilities
- Scout and engage potential authors, subject matter experts, and institutions
- Present publishing opportunities and nurture long-term author relationships
- Review manuscripts and proposals for curriculum fit, market relevance, and feasibility
- Support author onboarding and coordinate with the internal team for continuing author training
- Prepare acquisition briefs and recommendations for Project Committee’s review
- Conduct preliminary negotiations on scope, timelines, and expectations
- Track proposal status and maintain author database
- Provide acquisition forecasts to support 3- and 5-year publishing plans
- Monitor curriculum changes, competitor titles, and educational trends
- Recommend acquisition priorities to strengthen the portfolio
- Coordinate with Publishing Manager and internal teams to align acquisitions with production schedules and ensure smooth manuscript submissions
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Literature, Business, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- Proven leadership experience preferably in educational publishing or curriculum development
- Strong sense of accountability, professionalism, and drive
- Skilled coach and mentor with the ability to develop and guide teams
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills
- Ability to balance creative vision with market and curriculum requirements
